Coloring Books History
The USA is the origin and birthplace of coloring books. This beginning was part of a process known as the democratization of art. The man behind this process was an artist from England called Josh Reynolds. The other two educators who served this process were Johann Pestalozzi from Switzerland and the German Friedrich Fröbel who was his student. Different teachers and educators from all over the world knew the power of art and the value of teaching art to people, especially youngsters. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving skills and social skills were all parts of value art provided. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are incredibly likely to prove particularly useful in his future as an adult. The creators of the coloring book are the McLoughlin Brothers. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the original coloring book made by them in the 1880's. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. It was then that the McLoughlins joined the Milton Bradley firm. Another man credited for the progress of coloring books is Richard Outcault. In 1907, Richard created a coloring book called Buster's Paint Book which was based on a character he had created in 1902 named Buster Brown. The publication of Buster's Paint Book made companies realize what a good idea it would be to use coloring books as a tool for advertising theirs good. Thus, advertising through the use of coloring books and pages started. The first coloring books were made with the thought that they should be painted and not colored, and despite the growing popularity of crayons in the 1930's, there was no change in this approach.
The Uses of Coloring Books in Education
Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching kids a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. When children are young, just memorizing words can be slightly boring and complicated when compared to coloring pictures and associating those pictures with new expressions. This is why coloring books are such an engaging way of teaching kids about things. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. They are also utilized in selected classes as a method of enhancing creativity and knowledge of different topics such as geometry. Large publishers have been creating coloring books that target adults since the 1980's. These books were directed at graduate students of anatomy and physiology to make their learning experience better.
