What are coloring books?
A coloring book is a book where drawings are drawn using outlines and which readers can fill and colour by utilizing such things as colorful pencils, pens, crayons and other different kinds of paint and colours. Little children are the ones who mainly use coloring books, but of course, even adults have coloring books. These coloring books, and coloring pages and sheets are typically printed out on paper or cardboard, and some books are designed so that each page can be detached from the book once it is finished and used as a stand-alone coloring page. Many coloring books have a distinct theme or tell a story, which means the pages can't be torn out them or the book loses its purpose. Coloring pages very commonly include animation or cartoon characters that children are very fond of, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coloring pages or Cinderella Coloring pages. These coloring books are utilized by huge companies as advertising materials and ways of popularizing new cartoons or films. Coloring Books History
Coloring books first come about in the US. The primary reason for the emergence of coloring books and pages was the process of democratizing art. The man behind this process was an artist from England called Josh Reynolds. The artistic works of Johann Pestalozzi who was an educator from Switzerland and Friedrich Fröbel who was a German pupil of his, also inspired this process. Various teachers and educators from all over the world knew the significance of art and the value of teaching art to people, particularly kids. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving skills and social skills were all parts of benefit art provided. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are certainly likely to prove particularly useful in his future as an adult. He might even end up finding his passion in life or a career on account of developing an early artistic skill. As far as kids were concerned, many educators found that art played a part in a child’s mental and spiritual growth.
Coloring books were the creation of the McLoughlin Brothers. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the original coloring book made by them in the 1880's. Kate Greenway helped them with this first coloring book, and the McLoughlin Brothers' coloring book publication continued into the 1920's. It was then that the McLoughlins joined the Milton Bradley firm. Another man credited for the progress of coloring books is Richard Outcault. Richard wrote a coloring book in 1907 called Buster’s Paint Book which included a character he had created in 1902 called Buster Brown. The publication of this book was the impetus that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. At first, these initial coloring books were created for readers to paint and not color them. Surprisingly Enough, This Didn't Change With The Increasing popularity of crayons in the 1930's.
Educational Uses of Coloring Books
Almost every classroom for young children and preschoolers has a coloring book available somewhere, as these books are used to educate youngsters on a number of topics. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. Images are easier to recall for youngsters, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. It is a known fact that associating words with images is a magic formula of helping people acquire a new language. Images are also a fantastic way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subject areas like geometry and astronomy. Coloring books for adults and graduate level students have been created since the 1980’s by major publishers who aimed to target these groups and educate them on physiology and anatomy, as these images with numerous colors facilitated learning and memorizing also.
