Children start learning the difference between themselves and others by the time they are two years old. Parents are the first teachers for infants, and are an integral part of the learning process during these initial years. Their learning in the years after this phase is better when the learning is based on play.

Early childhood education plays a very important part in the proper development of children and extends till the child attains the age of eight. During this phase, they learn to absorb information and adapt to their surroundings. They gain a sense of themselves and learn how to interact with the people they come into contact with. This leads to understanding and governs behavior. Early childhood education is said to be most effective when it is imparted through the medium of play, instead of the traditional methods of teaching. This medium also helps children develop various skills and better motor abilities. Children start questioning as they perceive ideas and other things, which also helps them to develop their sensory organs and the need to communicate in order to get more information.

Early childhood education helps children to nurture and develop their own natural talents, and instills in them a sense of self worth. This prepares them for events that will take place in their later years. This self esteem makes a very big difference to the way they behave with others and how they will deal with their surroundings in future years. Childhood education programs for this young age have to focus on socializing, communication, development of motor skills and of course an ability to read.

Early childhood education builds a foundation for the child’s future educational achievements. During this stage, children pick up habits and form patterns of behavior that will not change as they grow older. That is the reason why it is very important that any education imparted concentrates more on these aspects, than the need to learn in scholastic ways. It is very important during this stage that parents are equally involved in any education pattern, as learning is a constant process for young children and their time at home and away from the play school or other institution can undo what has been learned there, if it is not maintained and followed up.

A good early childhood education helps the brain to develop in very healthy ways and this also needs to be enhanced by ensuring that the child gets the required nutrition. This is the stage, when the brain develops and its pattern of thinking and reacting is established. The experiences of learning during this initial stage of a child’s life will last them for a lifetime and establish behavior and social interaction patterns. Children gain a motivation to learn, and this helps them to carry forward this desire to the times when they actual get into EL-HI routines that they will have to follow, to prepare them for their lives and careers ahead. The right attention to early childhood education can only be of benefit to children after they grow up.
