What are coloring books?
A coloring book is a book where drawings are drawn using lines and which readers can fill and color by utilizing things like colorful pencils, pens, crayons and other various types of paint and colors. The earliest coloring book was produced in America. A process called the democratization of art was the cause of the birth of coloring books. Josh Reynolds, an English artist was the person responsible for this process. Friedrich Fröbel from Germany and his Swiss teacher, Johann Pestalozzi assisted in inspiring this process. Instructors from all over agreed that an education in the arts was crucial in developing cognitive skills and enhancing peoples' perception of the world. Education in art also facilitated a person’s ability to develop skills significant later on, particularly relating to finding a suitable future job. As far as children were concerned, many educators found that art played a part in a child’s mental and spiritual growth.
The creators of the coloring book are the McLoughlin Brothers. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. Next, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another essential figure in the history of coloring books. In 1907, Richard created a coloring book called Buster's Paint Book which was based on a character he had created in 1902 named Buster Brown. This book is what began the process of companies using coloring books as a means for advertising their products. At first, these initial coloring books were created for readers to paint and not color them. Surprisingly Enough, This Didn't Change With The Increasing popularity of crayons in the 1930's.
How Coloring Books Are Used in Schools and Kindergartens
Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching young children a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. Coloring books covering endless topics can be found, such as numbers, animal names, and names of cities and continents. Images are easier to recall for young children, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning. Learning words through pictures is an effective way of facilitating language learn in non-native speakers also. They are also utilized in certain classes as a way of enhancing creativity and knowledge of different topics such as geometry. Coloring books for adults and graduate level students have been created since the 1980’s by big publishers who aimed to target these groups and educate them on physiology and anatomy, as these images with diverse colors facilitated learning and memorizing also.
