Coloring Books - What Are They?

The person who influenced this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. It was then that the McLoughlins joined the Milton Bradley firm. Richard Outcault is another man who really helped the progression of the coloring book. Richard wrote a coloring book in 1907 called Buster’s Paint Book which included a character he had created in 1902 called Buster Brown. The publication of Buster's Paint Book made companies realize what a good idea it would be to use coloring books as a tool for advertising theirs good. Thus, advertising through the use of coloring books and pages started. At first, these initial coloring books were created for readers to paint and not color them. Surprisingly Enough, This Didn't Change With The Increasing popularity of crayons in the 1930's.
Educational Uses of Coloring Books
These days coloring books are commonly used in schools for teaching small children about different things. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. Youngsters find these books easy and more engaging than other ways of learning as images are easier to remember and memorize compared to only words.
