The Definition of Coloring Books together with their Uses
A coloring book is a book containing outlines, sketches plus drawings which readers can paint and colour implementing things like colouring sticks, crayons and pens, etc. Kids are the ones who generally use coloring books, but of course, even adults have coloring books. Coloring books and coloring pages are designed on cardboard sheets or papers. Some of the coloring pages can be bought separately or can be torn off from the coloring books that are made to permit that. Coloring Books History
Coloring books first emerged in the US. This emergence was part of a process known as the democratization of art. The man behind this process was an artist from England called Josh Reynolds. The other two educators who really helped this process were Johann Pestalozzi from Switzerland and the German Friedrich Fröbel who was his student. Different teachers and educators from all over the world knew the power of art and the value of teaching art to people, especially youngsters. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving capabilities and social skills were all parts of benefit art provided. The skills that a person develops in art education as a kid are very likely to prove particularly useful in his future as an adult. He might even end up finding his passion in life or a career due to developing an early artistic skill. Spiritual, social and mental growth are all enhanced in small children who participate in artistic activities.
The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. 'The Little Folk's Painting Book' was the earliest coloring book made by them in the 1880's. They collaborated with Kate Greenway on this project and the continued to publish coloring books well into the 1920’s. It was then that the McLoughlins joined the Milton Bradley firm. Richard Outcault is another man who really helped the progression of the coloring book. Richard wrote a coloring book in 1907 called Buster’s Paint Book which included a character he had created in 1902 called Buster Brown. This book is what began the process of companies using coloring books as a means for advertising their products. At first, these initial coloring books were created for readers to paint and not color them. Surprisingly Enough, This Didn't Change With The Increasing popularity of crayons in the 1930's.
The Uses of Coloring Books in Education
Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching youngsters a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. The topics for coloring books cover everything under the sun, like flowers, cartoons, alphabets, and even fruits and vegetables. Children find these books easy and more engaging than other ways of learning as images are easier to remember and memorize compared to only words. Images are also a great way of teaching groups and individual a new language. Images are also a powerful way to enhance and improve memory, and to assist in the understanding of certain subjects like geometry and astronomy. Significant publishers have been creating coloring books that target adults since the 1980's. These books were directed at graduate students of anatomy and physiology to make their learning experience better.
