Coloring Books - What Are They?
A coloring book is a book where graphics are drawn using outlines and which readers can fill and colour by making use of things such as colorful pencils, pens, crayons or other various sorts of paint and colors. Coloring Book- The History
The 1st coloring book was made in America. A process called the democratization of art was the reason for the birth of coloring books. The person who prompted this process was an English artist named Josh Reynolds. The other two educators who aided this process were Johann Pestalozzi from Switzerland and the German Friedrich Fröbel who was his student. Different teachers and educators from all over the world knew the necessity of art and the value of teaching art to people, specially youngsters. The development of cognitive abilities, problem solving capabilities and social skills were all parts of benefit art provided. Art education would prove to be valuable in a person's adult life also as many of the skills he learns might end up assisting him in his future careers. Educators assert that children who are involved in art education can be expected to develop emotionally, mentally, spiritually and also socially.
The McLoughlin brothers are the two people who invented the coloring book. In the 1880’s they created a coloring book called The Little Folk’s Painting Book. For this book, they worked with a lady called Kate Greenway, and they kept making coloring books until the 1920's. Next, the McLoughlin Brothers became part of the Milton Bradley company. Richard Outcault is another fundamental figure in the history of coloring books. A coloring book called Buster's Paint Book was written by Richard in 1907. He had created a character in 1902 called Buster Brown, and this coloring book he made was based on this character. The publication of this book was the impetus that gave companies the idea of using coloring books for advertising purposes. At first, these initial coloring books were created for readers to paint and not color them. Surprisingly Enough, This Didn't Change With The Increasing popularity of crayons in the 1930's.
The Uses of Coloring Books in Education
Coloring books are considered great tools for teaching children a lot of things, which is why they can be commonly found in schools and classrooms. From alphabets to numbers you can find coloring books pertaining to every topic. Images are easier to recall for youngsters, and coloring them is more exciting than other methods of learning, which is why coloring books are an excellent way of learning.
